We kicked off the 1st round of the 2025 Andalucian/Portuguese GAA Championship on February 1st. It was hosted at the Carlucci American School Campus in Linhó. The tournament was a great success, due in no small part to the fantastic facilities and support of the American School and their Director Nate Chapman.
The games were fast flowing and competitive with Costa Gaels women coming out on top. The surprise from the women’s games was the emergence of the Lisbon Celtiberos side as serious challengers. Special mention is reserved for the Porto Gaels women for their support and participation in their first competitive games. We would like to thank referee Séan O´Riain for managing the games calmly and consistently.
The men´s games were keenly contested and played in good spirit, ably marshalled by referee Frankie Kelly. Lisbon came out on top in this round but no doubt there will be challenging games to come in the next two rounds in Marbella and Seville respectively.
The tournament included over 100 players in total with kind support on the day from Ambassador of Ireland to Portugal Alma Ní Choigligh and club sponsor Diarmuid Crowley of Druid Sports Management & Marketing.
