A welcome message from Irish Ambassador to Portugal, Alma Ní Choigligh
As Ambassador of Ireland, I am delighted to welcome you to the site of the Portuguese Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).
Gaelic games hold a special place in the hearts of Irish people and friends of Ireland at home and all around the world. The GAA is the largest voluntary organisation in Ireland. Through fun, fitness and healthy competition, volunteering spirit, and above all a sense of community, friendship and inclusivity for women and men and children of all ages and levels of sporting ability, there really is something for everyone!
I am delighted that the GAA has developed so strongly here in Portugal since 2017 and I am sure that it will continue to grow from strength to strength in the period ahead. The Embassy here is happy to have been able to play a role in supporting its development.
I’ve really enjoyed meeting people of Irish, Portuguese and other nationalities playing the games together. Gaelic games are thriving in Portugal and I look forward to further development in the Algarve region and elsewhere in Portugal. I also welcome the deepening links with other GAA branches in Spain and across Europe.
In the meantime, and whether you are Irish, Portuguese or simply eager to try something new, be sure to explore this website to find out more about how to get involved in these exciting sports.
Go n-éirí an t-ádh libh / Boa sorte!
Alma Ní Choigligh
